Gas is now going for about $4.00 per gallon.
Perhaps you’ve heard.
There are a fair number of riders from the greater New York/ New Jersey area and we’re looking to see if we can get some of them paired up for the trip in order to save some gas. It doesn’t take any more gas to get two people here than it does one (provided, of course, they’re in the same car!)
We’ve already had one request for a ride share from New Jersey. He’s got the car and bike carrier, he’s looking for a passenger to help share expenses.
So how about it. Anyone wanna share a ride?

This week, the American Diabetes Association is encouraging people from around the country to make a difference by calling Congress and urging them to do much more to fight diabetes.
Please call 1-877-ADA-2008 today and urge your members of Congress to help the 20.8 million Americans with diabetes by supporting an increase in research and prevention funding for diabetes at the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
We need all the help we can get so please let your friends, family and co-workers know about this. We need to make sure Congress understands the effect diabetes has on the lives of millions of people living with this disease. For more info on Call to Congress, please visit our website at www.diabetes.org/calltocongress.
Want to do even more – register for the New England Classic and raise money to help fund ADA’s own research projects. Have a great time riding your bicycle around New England while supporting this important cause.
Your help is really important. Thank you in advance for your support.
What is the Diabetes EXPO you may ask? Well, it’s one stop shopping for everything related to diabetes, healthy eating and active living. This high-energy event is designed to provide you with access to product demonstrations, free product and food samples, knowledgeable health professionals, exiciting lectures, comprehensive health screenings, hands-on workshops and more. Not only that but you can visit us at the Tour de Cure display in ADA World. Come talk to us about the ride and the other New England tours.
The Diabetes EXPO will be held at the Seaport World Trade Center on Saturday, March 15 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Admission is free. Click here for the day’s schedule.
Ok- maybe not everything you wanted to know but a good portion of it. Below are the ride descriptions and the itinerary. The ride descriptions tell about the registration fee, minimum fundraising and what is included (like beds – no camping and meals – breakfast and dinner) for your efforts. If you have questions, post a comment here, email flinsky@diabetes.org or call Faith at 888-DIABETES x 3456. For some great pictures of the ride, go to Todd Davis’ and Jim Evan’s pages and for some video, go to Mike Keating’s page (click the links to the right for all). For more info or to register, click here. Can’t ride, we need volunteers too. Call or email Faith for more details.
Not only is the New England Classic a great event with wonderful scenery, friendly riders and supportive volunteers – it is a ride to raise money to fund important diabetes research, education and advocacy.
So take the ride of your life. Join us in July (12 -18). The cure could be riding on you!
The theme of American Diabetes Month this year was “the many faces of diabetes.” That seems an appropriate theme beyond November since every rider and volunteer becomes the “face” of diabetes to those who come in contact with them during the New England Classic.
I want to thank all of our riders and volunteers for the work they do to represent ADA in such a positive light. For many of them, the face of diabetes is a friend or a loved one that faces diabetes everyday. Sometimes it is their own face.
I hope that during this holiday season you’re able to take the time to appreciate the faces that surround you, both at work and at home, and I hope you take the time to enjoy the season.
We have some exciting and busy times ahead of us and I hope the holidays give you respite, relaxation and renewal so that we return in the new year ready to face forward and take up the fight against diabetes once again.
Happy Holidays.
Faith Linsky, Director Eastern New England Cycling Events
