Thank you

July 19th, 2008

At the risk of leaving someone out (because I certainly will), here are some thank yous.

First and foremost, thank you to all the sponsors. Your donations are what this is all about. On behalf of the 24 million Americans with diabetes, thank you for your support and commitment.

Thanks to the riders. It was tough, it was fun. It was a swell week.

Thanks to the volunteers. It can’t be done without you.

Thanks to Bob and Erik, our mechanics who really went above and beyond the call to keep us all going.

Thanks to Bill Lacy who organized this whole thing for, like, what? 120 years in a row now? It runs like clockwork.

Thanks to the organizing committee members who divide up the chores to make it all a bit easier for everyone

Thanks to the route markers who keep us from getting lost.

Thanks to the cities and towns we pass through for granting us permits.

Thanks to the staff of the American Diabetes Association, especially Faith Linsky, for putting together another spectacular event.

And, from all of us – the riders, volunteers, and persons living with diabetes – thanks to the American Diabetes Association for taking the lead in fighting this disease.

One week to go

July 5th, 2008

Your bike should be ready. You should get out for one last training ride this weekend, then relax the rest of the week. Get your stuff together. Start packing but DON’T OVERPACK!!! You’ll need far fewer clothes than you think and there are laundry facilities at almost every stop we make. Arrange for someone to pick up your mail. Print out directions to the starting line. Parker Chomerics has again graciously allowed us to park our cars in their lot for the week. Please follow directions the morning of the ride.

Check-in will be held at Chomerics (the start line) on Friday 7/11 from 5-7 pm and on Saturday 7/12 from 7-8 am.  There you will get your rider number, jersey, t-shirt, goody bag and day 1 trip tik.  If you have additional funds, please bring them to check-in.  If you have not turned in your minimum (either online or by mail), please bring it with you to check-in.  Remember all 150 riders are required to raise $500 and 550 riders are required to raise $1800.  If you have any questions, please call Faith at 888-342-2383 x 3456.

Please RSVP for the pasta dinner. 888-342-2382 x 3456 or admin {at} NewEnglandClassic.org.

We will leave Chomerics as a group with a police escort on Saturday.  Announcements start at 8 – We will hit the road at 8:30.

Two weeks to go

Are you ready? Got your forms and donations in? Getting your final training in?  Got your bike tuned up? Got your travel plans in order?

Remember, if you have any questions, contact Faith.

Carpooling

May 28th, 2008

Gas is now going for about $4.00 per gallon.

Perhaps you’ve heard.

There are a fair number of riders from the greater New York/ New Jersey area and we’re looking to see if we can get some of them paired up for the trip in order to save some gas. It doesn’t take any more gas to get two people here than it does one (provided, of course, they’re in the same car!)

We’ve already had one request for a ride share from New Jersey. He’s got the car and bike carrier, he’s looking for a passenger to help share expenses.

So how about it. Anyone wanna share a ride?

Post here or write to admin at newenglandclassic.org
